A bit about me
I’m Emma Guttman-Slater, aka egs. I am a strategic advisor, do-er, and economic and racial justice advocate. I’ve spent the bulk of my career in the alternative/social finance world, starting out in community lending, working directly with individuals and families on debt relief, and then spending many years advocating at the intersections of race, class, and climate for a fairer financial system. Prior to consulting, I led strategic communications, advocacy, and field building at Beneficial State.
I bring an energetic, inquisitive, equity-centered, and problem-solving mindset to my client projects, which range from conceptualization and launch to strategic direction and action-planning to partnerships and field building to developing and hiring teams. As I work on projects, I tend to create organizational infrastructure and systems that improve process, workflow, and communication. I lean deeply into what I call “sense-making,” or analyzing complex or connected or unclear information and establishing an actionable plan. I look for the in-betweens, the unlikely connections (it’s all connected though, isn’t it?), and the laughs.
From multimillion dollar initiatives to small one-time projects, I work at many scales to help my clients find the clarity they need. My purpose with all of my work is to move, or redistribute, money to advance racial and social justice.
I’m proud of the deep relationships I’ve built and nurtured. I love my community that spans the distance. I get a lot of things done. Please get in touch if you’d like to explore working together.
